Call for Applications – Young Researchers Panel
Cyberjustice Europe 2025 Conference:
Augmented Reality and the Virtualization of Justice
3rd December 2025 (Strasbourg, France)

The Université de Montréal's Cyberjustice Laboratory, in partnership with the Institut des études et de la recherche sur le droit et la justice (IERDJ), the European Commission for the efficiency of justice (CEPEJ), and the LexUM Chair on Legal Information, invites graduate students to submit a proposal for a conference about: Augmented Reality and the Virtualization of Justice.
CONFERENCE PRESENTATION
The Cyberjustice Europe 2025 conference explores the growing role of immersive technologies, augmented reality and dematerialized processes in the transformation of judicial systems. This theme is a continuation of the research carried out by the Université de Montréal's Cyberjustice Laboratory, in particular the Autonomy through Cyberjustice Technologies (ACT) project, which examines digital tools reinventing judicial interactions.
The conference will address the radical transformations introduced by these technologies, such as the holding of virtual hearings, the use of immersive environments for evidence management, or the integration of generative AI systems to automate judicial tasks. These developments offer unique opportunities to improve the efficiency, accessibility and transparency of judicial processes, but they also raise fundamental questions concerning the founding principles of justice, such as procedural fairness, the rule of law and respect for the public nature of hearings.
The aim of this conference is to provide a platform for exchange between researchers, legal professionals and technology developers, to analyze the impact of these tools and propose practical solutions to ensure their integration while respecting the fundamental principles of justice. This critical reflection will enable us to assess whether these innovations truly promote augmented and inclusive justice, or whether they risk compromising the ideals of fairness and universality of the justice system.
YOUNG RESEARCHERS PANEL THEME
As part of the conference, three students will be selected to take part in a panel exploring the impact of augmented reality and virtualization on judicial systems. During the panel, students will present their papers and take part in a guided discussion moderated by an experienced researcher.
